It was anticipated that these meetings would continue and would hopefully provide answers to questions regarding the provision of on site or off site car parking as well as several other traffic management problems or difficulties ensuing from the apparent dangers at the entrance/egress at ECH.  Negotiations are current with NHS Trust Travel Plan Consultants.

Edith Cavell Hospital Car Parking.

Members and residents are reminded and asked to attend a meeting on Friday 23 April 2010 at 2.30 pm in the HIPPO room of ECH to continue previous discussions on solutions to traffic and car parking problems/issues which, it is anticipated, will commence once the new ECH is opened in November 2010 and the then Old ECH begins to be demolished in January 2011 with completion anticipated in July 2011.  It is important that the Neighbourhood Council and professional officers NHS and P. City Council hear your views, opinions and answer your questions.

The contractors will be dismantling Crane 2 (Nearest to A47) over the week-end starting on Saturday. The weather looks acceptable and within the restrictions to allow them to proceed. New Sub-Contractor (Acrabuild) has commenced on the 278 Works at the main entrance to the hospital and is working to a nine week programme to get it finished.

I am sure you have noticed is the erection of the chimney which has been put in place on the boiler house in the south west corner of the Edith Cavell Hospital Site.  It is estimated that they are 40 metres high, state of the art aluminium material, and very prominent.  They can be seen from most all of our area.

You will also have noticed that as the building works progress our sky line has changed and you can see the top floor of the hospital from the bottom of Audley Gate, Elmore. Knowle Walk, Buckland Close, The Walks, Ledbury Road, Atherstone Avenue and so on

So it is feared that when people ask for directions the Chimney and the Hospital may become a land mark.

Fortunately for some of our residents the prevailing wind which blows from the SW some 300 out of 365 days may allow effluent to blow across the roof of the hospital and together with the smell of soup the air conditioning units will be working overtime to exclude these items.   Perhaps it may have been better planning if the hospital had been turned around some 90 degrees.    Then, at least, the mature tree belt would have been saved.

The  Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals - The Hippo Times is a fortnightly publication produced by the Trust that gives you the latest news on work on the Edith Cavell, Peterborough Maternity Unit and Peterborough District hospitals.
